Guess I’m No Longer On the Fence About Voter I.D. Laws

On the issue of Voter I.D. legislation, I was really on the fence actually. I try not to have a knee jerk reaction until I can have access to as many facts as possible. It does make some sense to require people to show their citizenship to vote in elections.  The case that conservatives continue to make is that anyone can stop by their local Department of  Public Safety office, and there, problem solved, right? Wrong. What if you lived in a state where 1/3rd of the state did not have access to a DPS office? Meaning: 2/3rds of the population did, while a huge portion would be refused to have access to getting voter identification. The burden is on the economically disadvantaged citizens of that state to have the gas money required to travel whatever distance to get the proper Voter I.D. (which is free, as is the case for Texas) but things such as a birth-certificate are not. In this bad economy, where high-taxing, big gubberment California is the now the number-one job creating state in the US, and where these jobs are much lower paying than the average, every dollar counts. Paying up even a meagar $22 (meager to some people) means giving up possible meals or medication.

So for now, I am on the side against Voter I.D. Laws and may consider opening my position when there is EVEN TALK of giving more folks access to Department of Public Safety offices.
