Because the media has been so pre-occupied with Lindsay Lohan’s comeback so much this week, little did they report on one of the most depraved stories I have read in a while. First, this is exactly the problem with privatized prison systems: there is no accountability as wardens and officers go all Walker, Texas Ranger on their prisoners outside the bounds of the law. It’s a real concern, but especially in terms of the immigration debate with privatized detention centers for undocumented workers. Today, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement “quietly” announced an investigation into allegations of officers sexually assaulting patients at a detention facility. Not only is this activity indicative of racist policies that discount the Imago Dei in every person, but it also exposes the corrupt nature of privatized prison systems within the prison-industrial complex. The good news today came on the Arizona immigration front. A U.S. district judge dismissed a counter-law suit by the Arizona state government to prevent the Federal government from doing its job. Bottom line: Arizona has no right to tell the federal government how to do its job. Period. It is wants to have its own immigration and nationalization policy, it should secede and become its own country. See more: CNN- Arizona immigration lawsuit dismissed.
